Amaral was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2012 draft by the Reds out of UCLA. He is the son of former Major Leaguer Rich Amaral. The 2016 season will be the third straight that Amaral has seen time at the Double-A level, after advancing through both Low- and High-A in 2014. After struggles in 2014 and ’15 at Double-A Amaral appears to have adjusted to the level in 2016, hitting around .280 with a .780 OPS through May. Though he was a stolen base threat in the lower levels, he does not run near as much anymore.
