Vargas was signed by the Reds out of the Dominican Republic prior to the 2013 season. In both the Dominican and rookie leagues, Vargas was around a .300 hitter. The speed and stolen base potential that he showed in the Dominican League has not translated to American pro baseball just yet. He stole 21 bases in the Dominican, but has swiped just 12 in two and a half seasons in America. A severe lack of walks also impact the OBP for the infielder. However, there does appear to be some power potential and Vargas broke into Low-A in 2016 at just 21-years-old.
