Lopez was originally a sixth round pick by the Reds in the 2014 draft out of Seton Hall. Though Lopez has the ability to miss bats, he also has shown to have hittable stuff. His K/9 totals are strong, between eight and ten, his H/9 totals are in the same pool. The command is solid, but the hits lead to an elevated WHIP for Lopez. Some of this could be due to his having Tommy John in 2014 and missing an entire season. Prior to the injury, Lopez was mid- to high-90s with a solid slider. Through May of 2016, all but one of Lopez’s appearances were as a start.
