Franklin was selected by the Reds in the second round of the 2013 draft out of high school. For a high school prospect, Franklin had good size for the third baseman that led to projectable power. The power has not quite developed, as Franklin hit just nine home runs in his first three pro seasons, repeating short-season Billings in 2015. He has also transitioned to first base. However, he did have 42 doubles of that span. He is also a solid defensive prospect, showing athleticism and a strong arm from the hot corner. Franklin got his feet wet in Low-A Dayton for the first time in 2016.
