Shackelford, a former catcher, was acquired by the Reds with Barrett Astin to complete the Jonathan Broxton trade in 2014. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 21st round in 2010. Shackelford is a sinker ball pitchers, who works with a fastball in the low- to mid-90s when right. He is still working to develop a slider that he can command as a secondary pitch. Shackelford pitches toward contact, and has a high career H/9. While he has seen success in stretches, they have yet to become sustained.
