Routt was originally a 16th round pick out of Mississippi State by the Reds in 2012. He has risen by a level every season, seeing a complete year at the level. With this slower progression, Routt has also seen success at each stop. He combines good command with the ability to miss bats. With a mix between a starter and reliever, Routt has worked exclusively out of the bullpen with Double-A Pensacola for the 2016 season. With this, he has seen an ERA under one through the first two months. The lefty Routt works in the low-90s with the fastball and has a sinking curve to go with it.
