Rainey was selected in the second round of the draft in 2015 by the Reds out of West Alabama. Since joining the organization, Rainey has seen mixed results. His K/9 totals are over eight, but his BB/9 rate is at nearly two per game. He is also allowing a hit per inning in his professional career, leading to an elevated WHIP in a season and a half. Rainey has a power fastball that can touch the high-90s that had the Reds excited. He just has not been able to put it all together just yet. He was a reliever and hitter in college and the Reds are working to transition him into a starter.
