Mahle was originally a seventh round pick by the Reds in 2013 out of high school. He started as a mix of starter and reliever in his first pro season, but is now used exclusively as a starter. Mahle works with a fastball in the low-90s and has three off pitches including a slider, curve, and a change. Since being draft, Mahle has grown into his frame and is now listed at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. He combines the arsenal of pitches with command to rarely walk hitters. This creates meniscal WHIP numbers. He can also miss bats, with a career K/9 total of over eight.
