After completing his rehab assignment with the Arizona League Reds on Tuesday night, Tyler Stephenson returned to Dayton before Wednesday’s game.
The 2015 first round pick Stephenson was played on the seven-day DL on June 1 with a left wrist strain. In 92 at bats prior to the injury, Stephenson was hitting just .196 with a .539 OPS. He had just two doubles, a triple, and a home run, while striking out a third of his at bats.
During the rehab, Stephenson went 5-for-20 with a double and home run.
Dayton also received two right-handed pitchers from Billings with Ryan Hendrix and Lucas Benenati.
Hendrix was the Reds’ fifth round selection in the 2016 draft, who posted a 5.19 ERA in six appearances with Billings this season. Benenati was selected in the 10th round of the 2016 draft and had a 6.00 ERA in nine games with Billings.
In return, catcher Ernesto Liberatore was demoted to the Arizona League and right-handed pitcher Junior Arias was sent to Billings from Dayton. Finally, right-handed pitcher Bernardo Moreta was released.
