pensacola

Result: Biloxi 1, Pensacola 0

Starting Pitcher: Nick Travieso, RHP – 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

Top Hitter: Eric Jagielo, 3B – 1-for-3

Other Notable Performers:

Juan Duran, RF – 1-for-3

Game Notes: In a game that certainly feature two offensively challenged nights, each team only had four total hits. In fact, one each way was by the pitcher.

Nick Travieso took the tough luck loss for Pensacola and really only made one mistake that resulted in an eighth inning run.

With the benefit of a double play, Travieso faced the minimum through four innings. In that span, he picked up four of his six strikeouts.

In the sixth, Travieso allowed a double to the opposing pitcher, but picked up a strikeout on a strong elevated fastball and a pop out to escape the damage.

After a perfect seventh, Travieso ran into trouble in the eighth and ultimately lost. Following a soft single, Biloxi played small ball and pushed a run across.

daytona

Result: St. Lucie 6, Daytona 1

Starting Pitcher: Keury Mella, RHP – 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Top Hitter: Gavin LaValley, 3B – 2-for-4

Other Notable Performers:

Yorman Rodriguez, LF – 1-for-1

Game Notes: For the first time since being traded to the Reds, Keury Mella allowed two home runs in a game, and that ultimately led to his downfall.

The first was a two-run homer in the fourth and the second was also a two-run shot in the following inning.

This was Mella’s first sidways outing in July, as he tossed six shutout innings last time out. He came into the contest with eight walks in his past 11 innings, and he added two more on Wednesday.

Garrett Boulware got Daytona on the board early with a second inning RBI ground out to score Aristides Aquino, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

For the game, Daytona managed only six hits and that was the only time that they had a man cross the plate. Of the hits, Gavin LaValley had a pair of them.

Rehabbing Yorman Rodriguez got a hit in his only at bat, but then left the game after being thrown out at second base trying to stretch it.

Result: Dayton 4, Beloit 1

Starting Pitcher: Tanner Rainey, RHP – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Other Notable Performers:

Nick Senzel, 3B – 1-for-4

Reydel Medina, RF – 1-for-4, HR, R, RBI

Game Notes: In his first game since returning from the DL with a wrist sprain, Tyler Stephenson catapulted Dayton to a win with a late, go-ahead three-run homer.

Though he received a no decision, Tanner Rainey had one of his strongest starts of the season as well.

The biggest issue with Rainey in 2016 has been the walks. He still allowed three free passes Monday, but still kept things in check.

Reydel Medina added a solo home run, which was his second in as many games and third in the last 10.

Nick Senzel also picked up a single to extend his current hit streak to six of the last seven and eight of the last 10 games.
