Overview: John Lamb had some elevated numbers in the first half, but got better as the games went along. Some of that could be due to starting the season on the DL. Tim Adleman will make his first start since May 19 with Louisville in a rehab outing. The 2016 fourth round pick Scott Moss will make his second professional start in Billings as well.
Milwaukee at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: John Lamb (1-6, 5.43 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 55 K, 29 BB)
Notes: The numbers in the first half of the season can be deceiving for John Lamb. He certainly doesn’t throw hard or have electric stuff, and when you mix that with an ERA near five and a half, he can be viewed as disappointing on paper. The main issue with Lamb has been with the fly ball. When he has been able to keep the ball down in the zone and get hitters to put it on the ground, he has been successful.
Indianapolis at Louisville, 6:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Tim Adleman (2-0, 4.05 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 15 K, 4 BB)
Notes: Tim Adleman will be making his first start since May 19, when he left his start with a oblique strain. After a strong start to the season in Louisville, Adleman earned a promotion to start for the Reds on May 1. In his first three starts, Adleman worked 16 innings, allowing six runs. The hits can be deceiving in those three starts. He allowed seven combined in his first two outings and eight in his third. The fourth start was the one that Adleman left due to the injury after 3.1 innings.
Pensacola at Jacksonville, 6:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Rookie Davis (6-3, 2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 35 K, 21 BB)
Notes: Davis prepares for his 15th Double-A start of the season on Friday. Command was an issue for Davis early, as he walked two or more hitters in seven of his first 11 games in 2016. However, he has rebounded nicely and walked just two over his past three starts. His last outing was the best of the season for Davis, who worked seven shutout innings. That was coming off his worst, where he went just two on July 5, allowing nine hits and seven runs.
Daytona at St. Lucie, 6:30 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: TBD
Notes: With Seth Varner coming back to make the start on Friday for Daytona, the starter for the Tortugas will be either Tejay Antone or Wendolyn Bautista.
Beloit at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Austin Orewiler (2-8, 3.52 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 44 K, 28 BB)
Notes: Austin Orewiler will make his 15th start and 20th outing of the season on Saturday. The results have been mixed for the right-hander. Orewiler has done a nice job working deep into games, but has struggled with hits and base runners at times. The groundball to fly ball rates have been good, but they have been finding holes.
Grand Junction at Billings, 8:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Scott Moss (0-0, 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 0 K, 0 BB)
Notes: Scott Moss, the Reds fourth round pick this season, will make his second start of the season. Last time out, Moss met his pitch count after just an inning and was removed. He looks to build on that in his second start.
AZL Reds at AZL Padres, 9:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: TBD
