Game recap (7/15/16): Homer Bailey completes fourth rehab start

Result: Indianapolis 4, Louisville 0

Starting Pitcher: Homer Bailey, RHP – 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

Top Hitter: Jesse Winker, RF – 1-for-3

Other Notable Performers:

Scott Schebler – 1-for-3

Game Notes: Homer Bailey made his fourth rehab start of this stint with Louisville, while attempting to recover from Tommy John surgery.

While he did allow three runs on paper, the overall results were strong. Only one of the three were earned, and Bailey struck out five in four innings of work. He was able to work his way up to 67 pitches this time out, meaning that he is getting stretched out and closer.

Jesse Winker picked up his first hit since returning to Louisville from the DL with a wrist ailment. Otherwise, the Louisville offense was dominated by Indianapolis pitcher Trevor Williams, getting just four base runners all night.

Result: Pensacola

Pensacola was postponed due to rain on Friday night. They will play one game on Saturday, and a doubleheader on Sunday to make it up.

Result: St. Lucie 8, Daytona 1

Starting Pitcher: Seth Varner, LHP – 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

Top Hitter: Ronald Bueno, 3B – 1-for-3, 2B, RBI

Other Notable Performers:

Angelo Gumbs, 2B – 2-for-4

Jonathan Reynoso, CF – 2-for-3, R

Game Notes: After making a pair of starts with Louisville, Seth Varner returned to Daytona and saw some similar issues that he did in Triple-A.

Varner had a hard time at the start of the game, and St. Lucie jumped on him early. Varner allowed four straight hits, and to start the game, and five overall, with four runs in the first inning.

Varner allowed another two hits and a run in the second, but settled in to last five innings. After the onslaught, Varner retired 11 of his last 13 hitters.

For the second straight night, Angelo Gumbs had two hits in a contest.

Though he went hitless in back-to-back games, Jonathan Reynoso does now have multiples hits in four of his last 10 games.

Result: Beloit 9, Dayton 5

Starting Pitcher: Ty Boyles, LHP – 6 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Top Hitter: Shane Mardirosian, LF– 2-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI

Other Notable Performers:

Mitch Piatnik, CF – 1-for-2, R, 2B, RBI, 3 BB

Tyler Stephenson, C – 1-for-3, RBI, BB

Game Notes: This season has not been kind at all to Ty Boyles, and results were not where he wanted them on Friday night either, but Boyles was able to battle his way through six innings.

The ERA is over five and that reflects across the entire stat line, but Boyles has worked at least six full innings in six of his 13 starts. However, that is with a heavy amount of baserunners each time out.

Shane Mardirosian hit his first home run of the season in the third inning. Mardirosian is 4-for-11 in his last three games with a pair of extra base hits.

Nick Senzel has not appeared in the lineup for back-to-back nights now.

Other Notable Performers:

Alejo Lopez, 2B – 1-for-1, RBI, BB

John Sansone, DH – 1-for-2, R

Game notes: Though Billings played a rain-shortened game on Friday night, there were still some impressive performances.

After picking up just one hit in his first five games, Montrell Marshall has five hits in his last four games with three doubles.

Walks have been the main issue for Andrew Jordan that last couple times out. However, on Friday, he walked just one hitter and was on pace to have hit longest outing of the season when the game was called. Jordan had thrown just 59 pitches through four inning, with 35 being strikes.

John Sansone picked up three hits on Thursday night and another on Friday. That made the fourth straight game that he had a knock.

Alejo Lopez has hits in nine of his last 11 games including Friday, with four multi-hit efforts.
