For the second time in as many seasons, Devin Mesoraco had surgery on his ailing hip on Monday.
The surgery was to repair a torn right labrum in the hip. Last season, Mesoraco had the same surgery on his left hip.
Mesoraco’s season ended in May when he had surgery on his left shoulder, so the timing was actually good to have the hip operated on as well.
Mesoraco played in just 16 games in 2016 and 23 in 2015, losing each due to injury.
Prior, Mesoraco was an All-Star in 2014, hitting .273 with an .893 OPS. This resulted in him signing a four- year, $28 million contract.
According to the Reds, Mesoraco is expected to return to catching drills in mid- to late-January.
