Game recap (7/19/16): Jesse Winker stays hot for Louisville


Result: Columbus 9, Louisville 8

Top Hitter: Jesse Winker, RF – 2-for-5, RBI

Game Notes: After a perfect first inning, Daniel Wright continued his alarming trend of late, and allowed nine hits and two walks in the next four innings. This allowed several opportunities and Columbus took advantage to plate four runs against him.

Drew Hayes worked two perfect innings out of the bullpen and has now worked three straight scoreless frames since allowing five runs on four hits on July 9.

J.J. Hoover picked up his second blown save for Louisville, but broke a streak where he had been quite good since being optioned. Hoover had allowed just six hits and two earned runs since being optioned at the end of June in seven innings.

Jesse Winker added two more hits on Tuesday night, and now has a five-game hitting streak. In his past two games, he is 5-for-8 with a double and a RBI.


Result: Pensacola


Pensacola was off on Tuesday night and returns to action on Wednesday.

Starting Pitcher: Michael Sullivan, LHP – 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Top Hitter: Blake Trahan, SS – 2-for-5, R

Other Notable Performers:

Aristides Aquino, RF – 1-for-4, 3B, R, RBI

Gavin LaValley, 3B – 1-for-4, RBI, BB

Game Notes: Michael Sullivan made his first start of the season, and did not disappoint. Though he is still getting stretched out, he struck out four hitters in three scoreless frames.

Aristides Aquino broke an 0-for-21 slump with a RBI triple to right field.

Angelo Gumbs went 0-for-4 and broke an 11-game hit streak for Daytona.

Ismael Guillon and Jimmy Herget teamed up to toss the final five scoreless frames with seven combined strikeouts. Guillon added six of those. For the season, batters are hitting just .176 off Guillon and .173 off Herget.


Result: Dayton

Dayton was off on Tuesday, but returns to action on Wednesday.



Result: Billings 5, Orem 3

Starting Pitcher: Antonio Santillan, RHP – 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: Hector Vargas, SS – 2-for-4, 2B

Jose Siri, RF – 3-for-4, 2 R, RBI

Game notes: Antonio Santillan allowed three runs for the third time in four starts. However, those numbers can be a hit deceiving, as he also allowed his first home run – two solo shots – since June 27. Being limited to just two strikeouts also speaks to the strength of the Orem offense.

Hector Vargas added two hits with a double in the contest and is hitting .417 in his last 10 games. Overall, he has hits in 22 of his last 25 games, with multiple hits in 10 of those games.

Daniel Sweet added two hits, and broke a 3-for-18 slump coming in. Jose Siri is quietly hitting .297 in his last 10 games.


Result: AZL Royals 7, AZL Reds 0

Starting Pitcher: Gregory Reinoso, RHP – 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: Edgar Herrera, 3B – 1-for-4, 2B

Game notes: The AZL Reds were only able to muster four hits for the game and fell to the AZL Royals.
