Game preview (7/27/16): John Lamb going in the right direction

Overview: Dan Straily looks to continue his recent success in his last start before the trade deadline. John Lamb eyes continuing work with his new friend the strikeout, while Rookie Davis tries to continue his tear. Scott Moss makes his fourth pro start for Billings.


Cincinnati at San Francisco, 3:45 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Dan Straily (5-6, 4.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 92 K, 49 BB)

Notes: Dan Straily will make his 19th start and 22nd appearance for the Reds in 2016 on Wednesday. Straily has been on a nice run for the Reds with four straight quality starts to begin July. In his last outing, Straily went six innings, allowing just five hits and two runs, while striking out eight. In July, Straily has worked 26 innings, and given up just 16 hits and eight runs, while walking nine and striking out 18.


Charlotte at Louisville, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: John Lamb (1-2, 7.91 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, 22 K, 5 BB)

Notes: John Lamb will make his second Triple-A start since being optioned earlier in the month. In his first start, Lamb allowed four hits and three runs over 5.2 innings of work. However, he also struck out 10. While the contact against him was hard at time due to location, Lamb had also started to figure out the strikeout in the big leagues before the demotion. He had struck out at least five hitters in four of his last six Major League starts.


Pensacola at Montgomery, 8:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Rookie Davis (8-3, 2.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 72 K, 23 BB)

Notes: Rookie Davis has seen some of his best success since being traded to the Reds in his last three starts. In his last outing, Davis went just shutout five innings after taking a comebacker, but allowed just four hits and no walks. In those three starts, Davis has tossed 18 innings and allowed 14 hits, two runs, and one walk. Over the span, he has struck out 18.


Clearwater at Daytona, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tejay Antone (9-6, 3.89 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 48 K, 22 BB)

Notes: Outside of one tough start, Tejay Antone has been on a solid roll lately. In his last seven starts, he has worked into the seventh inning in four of them. This includes three of the last four. In his last start, Antone went 6.2 innings and allowed seven hits, three runs (two earned), and walked three.


Great Lakes at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher:Ty Boyles (2-6, 5.54 ERA, 1.57 WHIP,54 K, 32 BB)

Notes: Ty Boyles will look to rebound from his worst starts in one of his toughest professional seasons. He has struggled with command at times and his stuff has played very hittable thus far. In his last start, Boyles lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs. During the outing, he also walked three hitters.


Billings at Orem, 9:05 p.m. EST

Starting piticher: Scott Moss (0-0, 2.35 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 5 K, 1 BB)

Notes: Scott Moss, the Reds fourth round pick in the 2016 draft, will be making his fourth professional start Wednesday. In his last outing, Moss went 4.2 innings for his longest professional start. He allowed three hits and a run, while striking out four.


AZL Reds at AZL Indians, 9:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD
