Game preview (8/5/16): Anthony DeScalfani looks to continue consistency

Overview: At the big league level, Anthony DeScalfani looks to continue his consistent stretch for the Reds. Throughout the rest of the organization, pitchers are trying to rebound from rough stretches.

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Anthony DeSclafani (6-0, 2.93 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 52 K, 13 BB)

Notes: The Reds begin another trip and they start with Anthony DeScalfani, who has been the Reds most consistent starter all season. DeScalfani has allowed over three runs just twice in his 10 2016 starts, and those were his only non-quality start of the campaign. In fact, it was the only time that he also failed to go at least six innings. DeScalafani rebounded nicely after one of his worst starts of the season in San Francisco with six strong innings in San Diego last time out.

Columbus at Louisville, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD

Notes: While the starter is listed as TBD on the Louisville website, Daniel Wright would be up in the rotation. Wright has struggled lately and has allowed 30 hits in the last five games.

Pensacola at Biloxi, 8:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tyler Mahle (5-2, 3.45 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 38 K, 13 BB)

Notes: Tyler Mahle will make his 22nd start between two levels on Friday night for Pensacola. Since being promoted to Double-A, Mahle has been consistently good, after dominating High-A. However, he has come down to earth a bit lately. In his last three starts, Mahle has allowed 22 hits and 14 runs in 16.2 innings. While five of the runs were unearned, having more base runners eventually cost him.

Daytona at Tampa, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD

Notes: While the Daytona website lists the starter as TBD, it would be Keury Mella’s turn in the rotation. Mella has struggled drastically lately, allowing 30 hits and 16 earned runs in his last four starts.

Dayton at West Michigan, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Alex Webb (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 1 K, 2 BB)

Notes: In his first start above rookie level on Sunday, Webb had a tough first inning, but then settled down nicely. Prior to his promotion, he posted a 0.79 in five relief appearances with Billings. He has been transitioned into a starter for Dayton.

Ogden at Billings, 9:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Ian Kahaloa (1-1, 2.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 21 K, 5 BB)

Notes: Kahaloa makes his sixth start of the season with Billings on Friday night. After allowing 13 hits and four runs in two starts and 8.2 innings, Kahaloa returned to form last time out. On July 30, he worked 5.1 and allowed three hits and two runs.

AZL Brewers at AZL Reds, 9:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD
