Game preview (8/7/16): Rookie Davis to make Triple-A debut, Max Wotell Reds system debut

Overview: Rookie Davis will make his Triple-A debut after being promoted on Friday with Louisville. Dan Straily and Jackson Stephens look to continue their 2016 consistency. Austin Orewiler looks to rebound from a late season slump.

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh, 1:35 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Dan Straily (6-6, 3.80 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 101 K, 51 BB)

Notes: Dan Straily has gone at least six innings in his last six starts, with three of those working into the seventh and one into the eighth. Dan Straily will make his 21th start and 24rd appearance for the Reds in 2016 on Sunday trying to keep the Reds from being swept by the Pirates. In his last six starts, Straily has worked 39.2 innings and allowed 24 hits and 11 runs. He has also only walked 11 batters, which has been an issue in the past, and struck out 27 hitters.

Columbus at Louisville, 6:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Rookie Davis (0-0, -.– ERA, -.– WHIP, 0 K, 0 BB)

Notes: Rookie Davis will make his first Triple-A start on Sunday after being promoted from Pensacola on Friday. In 18 starts with Pensacola, Davis posted a 2.72 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP in 96 innings of work. Davis had an extremely good month of July. For the month, Davis posted a 2.49 ERA and he struck out 24 in 25.1 innings of work.

Pensacola at Biloxi, 6:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Jackson Stephens (7-10, 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 99 K, 34 BB)

Notes: Jackson Stephens has been the model consistency for Pensacola this season. He has gone at least five innings in 19 of his 20 starts. He worked into the seventh in his last two starts. In five of his last seven starts, he has went at least six innings, with the other two being five-inning outings. In his last start, Stephens seven innings and allowed a season best three hits and one run, while striking out seven.

daytona

Daytona at Tampa, 1:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tejay Antone (11-6, 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 84 K, 27 BB)

Notes: Tejay Antone was named Pitcher of the Month for Daytona for July. For the month, Antone started five games and posted a 2.32 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP. After average numbers for the first two month, and struggling his way though June with an ERA near six, the honor is a tad unexpected for Antone. He struck out 19 to just nine walks for the month. He also did not disappoint in his last start, which was also his first in August. Antone went eight innings, allowing just six hits and one run, while striking out five.

dayton

Dayton at Lake County, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Austin Orewiler (2-10, 3.80 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 60 K, 34 BB)

Notes: Orewiler has hit a bit of a rough patch in his season. In three of his last five starts, he has allowed at least eight hits and four runs. After allowing seven runs in back-to-back outings, Orewiler rebounded with two quality starts in July. However, in his July 28, Orewiler reverted back and allowed nine hits and four runs over five innings. He did strike out five though. The struggle continued in his last start, his first in July. He allowed 10 hits and eight runs in 4.2 innings.

Ogden at Billings, 3:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Max Wotell (0-0, -.– ERA, -.– WHIP, 0 K, 0 BB)

Notes: Max Wotell will make his Reds system debut after being acquired in the Jay Bruce trade. In six games with Kingsport in the Mets system, Wotell posted a 3.94 ERA in 29.2 innings. However, his WHIP was just 1.21 and he struck out 32 hitters.
