Game recap (8/14/16): Aristides Aquino homers again

Game Notes: Alfredo Simon made his latest and longest rehab start on Sunday, working three innings. The Reds have been working Simon on two- and three-days rest and having him go one, then two, and now three innings. With the work, it appears that they are looking to bring Simon back in a long relief role.

Jesse Winker added a hit for his seventh straight game. He is now hitting .378 in his 10 games, with seven walks over that span.

After hitting for the cycle in his last three games, with a double, a triple, and a home run in three different games, Beau Amaral added another double for his fourth extra base hit in as many games.

Seth Mejias-Brean added three hits and has had two three-hit games in his last three contests.

Starting Pitcher: Nick Travieso, RHP – 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Top Hitter: Jeff Gelalich, CF – 3-for-5, 2B, 2 3B, 3 R, 2 RBI

Game Notes: The top part of the order in the Pensacola line up did some damage on Sunday. The first five hitters in the order went 13-for-21 with three doubles, eight RBI, and seven runs.

Jeff Gelalich led the way with a double and a pair of triples.

Alex Blandino picked up a pair of hits and is now batting .452 over his last eight game. He had a six-game hit streak broken on Saturday, but started a new one on Sunday.

Nick Travieso made his second start since being activated from the DL on Sunday and got roughed up in the first inning. He started the game with a walk, single, triple, and double to the first four batters. After a sacrifice fly and two ground outs, Travieso got out of it with four runs crossing the plate.

He then settled in nicely and faced three over the minimum for the next four innings. The sixth was a little rocky again, but he got out of it with no more damage done.

Game Notes: Aristides Aquino has bounced back nicely over his last handful of games and added a grand slam on Sunday to put a cherry on top. He also added his 25th outfield assist of the season in the contest.

After seeing a 2-for-25 slump, Aquino has gone 4-for-12 with three home runs over his last three games.

Blake Trahan chipped in a pair of singles, which raised his average to .324 over his last nine games.

Shed Long picked up a triple and has now has a hit in eight of his last nine games with six extra base hits and four multi-hit games.

Tejay Antone was not his most smooth, pitching in and out of danger most of the night, but he did pitch well enough to pick up his 13th win of the season.


Result: Dayton 6, South Bend 5

Starting Pitcher: Jesus Reyes, RHP – 5 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

Top Hitter: Josciel Veras, CF – 2-for-4, 2B, HR, R, 2 RBI

Other Notable Performers:

Nick Senzel, 3B – 1-for-5, 2B, R, 2 K

Daniel Sweet, DH – 2-for-4, 2B, R, BB

Game Notes: After going 0-for-4 in the game, Nick Senzel doubled in the 10th inning and scored the winning run on Sunday in a walk off fashion.

After going just 2-for-16 in a short stretch, Senzel has now hit in eight of his last nine games.

Josciel Veras homered in his second straight game for his only two long balls of the season. He also had two hits in each of those contests.

Jesus Reyes had his worst start of the season, allowing seven runs to cross the plate, with five earned.



Result: Ogden 15, Billings 9

Starting Pitcher: Andrew Jordan, RHP – 1.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: Michael Beltre, CF – 2-for-5

Other Notable Performers:

Montrell Marshall, 1B – 1-for-3, 2B, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB

Ty Blankmeyer, 2B – 3-for-5, 2 R, RBI

Game Notes: Michael Beltre has gotten off to a quick start since his promotion to Billings. He added two hits on Sunday and has now gone 7-for-19 in his five games since the promotion.

Andrew Jordan had easily his worst outing of the season and was not able to make it out of the second inning. Jordan allowed eight hits and eight runs while retiring just five batters.
