Game preview (8/16/16): Starters look to stay consistent

Overview: Jackson Stephens, Tim Adleman and Anthony DeSclafani look to continue strong seasons. Jose Lopez prepares for his third start at a new level.

Miami at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Anthony DeSclafani (6-1, 3.11 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 63 K, 18 BB)

Notes: Anthony DeScalfani, who has been the Reds most consistent starter all season, will look to curb a series opening loss to Miami in the second game of the series on Tuesday. DeScalfani has allowed over three runs just twice in his 12 2016 starts, and those were his only non-quality start of the campaign. In fact, his last time out was the only time that DeSclafani allowed three or fewer and failed to go at least six innings. In that last start, DeScalafani allowed six hits and three runs over five innings.

Louisville at Indianapolis, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tim Adleman (3-1, 2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 38 K, 10 BB)

Notes: Tim Adleman was strong again for Louisville, and has been nothing but consistent since his return from the DL. Outside of the one sideways start that he had with 10 hits allowed, Adleman has allowed 29 hits and three earned runs in 34 innings with Louisville. He has also struck out 25 over the span. In his last three starts, he has lasted at least seven innings. In the last outing, he worked seven innings with six hits and two unearned runs.

Pensacola at Mississippi, 8:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Jackson Stephens (6-10, 3.00 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 115 K, 35 BB)

Notes: Jackson Stephens has been the model consistency for Pensacola this season. He has gone at least five innings in 21 of his 22 starts and worked into the seventh in his last four starts. In seven of his last nine starts, he has went at least six innings, with the other two being five-inning outings. In his last start, Stephens went seven shutout innings and allowed just five hits, while striking out 10. In three August starts, he has gone seven innings in each, allowing just 15 total hits and two runs while striking out 23.

Daytona at Brevard County, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD

Notes: The starter is listed as TBD on the Daytona website, but it would be Jose Lopez’s turn in the rotation. Lopez allowed just three hits and one earned run (two total) over six innings in his High-A debut on August 4. However, he allowed eight hits and seven runs (three earned) in his last start on August 11. He did strike out eight hitters between the two games.

Fort Wayne at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Wendolyn Bautista (0-0, 6.23 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, 7 K, 5 BB)

Notes: Bautista will make his first appearance since July 29 Tuesday night with Dayton. However, he was extremely good in 10 starts with Daytona this season, allowing just 34 hits and 15 runs (10 earned) in 44.2 innings. In his last start, Bautista worked three innings, allowing four hits and three runs.

Billings at Idaho Falls, 9:15 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Ian Kahaloa (2-1, 2.87 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 30 K, 9 BB)

Notes: Kahaloa makes his eighth start of the season with Billings on Wednesday night. After allowing 13 hits and four runs in two starts and 8.2 innings, Kahaloa returned to form, before struggling again and rebounding again in his last start. In that outing, he worked five innings, allowing five hits and one run, while striking out four.

AZL White Sox at AZL Reds, 9 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD
