Game recap (6/16/16): Jose Siri homers again, two more hits for Chris Okey

Game Notes: Drew Hayes got the spot start after Tim Adleman was promoted to Cincinnati on Tuesday, and settled in nicely after a rocky first inning.

In that first, Hayes allowed two hits and two walks, including a free pass with the bases loaded. In the second, he walked the opposing pitcher, but a caught stealing after a fielder’s choice kept him at the minimum for the inning. The third inning brought an intentional walk and another single, but Hayes picked up a double play to end the threat.

A single allowed started the fourth, but Hayes then retired the final three hitters he faced.

Wandy Peralta followed Hayes and tossed two perfect frames and struck out three.

Jesse Winker added a single and has now hit in nine straight. Jose Peraza had the only other hit and broke up a no-hitter in the sixth, He is 7-for-19 in his last five games.


Result: Pensacola

Pensacola was off on Tuesday night and return to action on Wednesday.

Game Notes: Jose Lopez struggled once again on Tuesday night in his third start at the High-A level.

Lopez struggled with command early. He allowed a single, a walk, and a RBI double in the first inning. He walked two more in the second, and allowed another RBI double in that frame to dig an early 2-0 hole.

In the third, it was back-to-back singles, and then a RBI sacrifice fly. He allowed another single in the fourth, but that was the only damage. Lopez finished his night with 94 pitches in four innings.

Gavin LaValley added two hits and a double. He has hit in eight of his last 10 games at a .324 clip over that span.

Shed Long added two more hits and extended a seven-game hit streak of his own.

Starting Pitcher: Wendolyn Bautista, RHP – 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: Chris Okey, CF – 2-for-4, R

Luis Gonzalez, SS – 2-for-4, 3B, R

Game Notes: For the second straight game, Chris Okey picked up two hits for Dayton. He is  9-for-18 over his last five games.

Wendolyn Bautista saw his first action in just under a month and tossed five frames. He allowed single runs in the third and fourth, but pitched well overall.

Sarkis Ohanian worked a perfect ninth and struck out two. After allowing runs in three straight appearances, he has not allowed one in his last three over 3.1 innings.

Luis Gonzalez added a triple and Shane Mardirosian hit a home run.

Game Notes: Zac Correll picked up the start for the scheduled pitcher Ian Kahaloa and turned in three strong innings with five strikeouts.

Jose Siri added another home run and has now hit six in his last eight games.

Hector Vargas chipped in two hits and a double and now has a 12-game hit streak and has hit in 16 of his last 17 games.
