Overview: Dan Straily looks to regain his strong stretch, while Barrett Astin gets another start. Max Wotell will get his third start with Billings and looks to improve on two tougher ones.
Miami at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Dan Straily (8-6, 3.75 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 111 K, 51 BB)
Notes: It is hard to find anyone in baseball who has been as reliable as Dan Straily of late. Straily has gone at least six innings in seven of his last eight starts, with three of those working into the seventh and one into the eighth. In his last start, Straily lasted just 5.1 innings and allowed a season-high 10 hits though. While he didn’t have his best stuff, he still allowed only two runs.
The Louisville Bats are off on Thursday and return to action on Friday.
Pensacola at Mississippi, 8:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Barrett Astin (7-3, 2.60 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 75 K, 23 BB)
Notes: Barrett Astin will get the nod again for Pensacola and has bounced back and forth from starter to reliever this season. His last two appearances have been out of the bullpen, but he made three starts prior. In those starts, he allowed just seven hits and three runs in 16.2 innings of work. However, his last appearance in relief, he allowed five hits and three runs in 3.1 innings.
Dunedin at Daytona, 6:30 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Seth Varner (5-8, 4.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 74 K, 23 BB)
Notes: The first game will be the resume of the suspended game on Wednesday, and then Seth Varner will take the hill for the second game to follow. Varner has gone at least five innings in five of his last six starts and has worked into the seventh in his last two. However, the hit totals have been rolling in as well. Over those outings, he has allowed 54 hits in 33.1 innings of work. The run totals have followed, with 29 earned runs over that span. However, he tossed seven shutout inning on seven hits last time out two starts ago.
Fort Wayne at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Ty Boyles (5-8, 5.45 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 76 K, 43 BB)
Notes: Ty Boyles’ seasonal struggles landed him in the bullpen with a new influx of starters to Dayton late last month, but a need with a thin rotation earned him another chance to start. He made the most of it to get another opportunity, and has received three starts since. In his last outing, Boyles made progress. He allowed three hits in 5.2 shutout innings. It was the first time all season that he had an appearance without allowing a run.
Billings at Idaho Falls, 9:15 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Max Wotell (0-0, 12.46 ERA, 2.54 WHIP, 5 K, 6 BB)
Notes: Max Wotell will make his third start since the Jay Bruce trade. The first two have not gone so well for the lefty. In his first start, he went four innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and three runs. He struck out four. In the second start, he allowed two hits, three walks, and three runs, while retiring just one batter.
AZL Reds at AZL Cubs, 9 p.m. EST
