Game recap (8/18/16): Aristides Aquino homers again


Result: Louisville

Louisville was off on Thursday and return to action on Friday.


Result: Pensacola

Pensacola was postponed due to rain and will return to action on Friday night with a double header.



Result:  Daytona 7, Dunedin 6

Starting Pitcher: Michael Sullivan, LHP – 2.1 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 BB, 4 K

Top Hitter: Aristides Aquino, RF – 1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, BB

Gavin LaValley, 3B – 3-for-5, 2B, R, RBI

Reydel Medina, LF – 3-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI

Game Notes: For the second straight game, Aristides Aquino went deep. He hit his 21st home run of the season on Wednesday night before the rain came, and then smashed his 22nd of the season in the second game on Thursday night.

Aquino has hit six home runs in his last seven games, but he only has seven total hits in his last 10 contests.

Gavin LaValley and Reydel Medina each added three hits in the game. LaValley has hit .357 over his last nine games. Medina went 5-for-8 in his last two games. Most of that work was done in the completion of Wednesday night’s game and Thursday game.

Brian O’Grady also homered in that completed game, a 4-1 Daytona win.

Starting Pitcher: Ty Boyles, LHP – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

Top Hitter: Chris Okey, C– 1-for-3, 3B, R, RBI

Game Notes: Ty Boyles was on a roll and having by far his best start of the season with command and stuff, and then he took a comebacker to end the fifth inning.

Boyles then left the game after 89 pitches and just five base runners allowed. He struck out two of three in the first, third, and fourth innings. Coming into the game, Boyles struggled with both command and contact. Neither was an issue before the comebacker.

Chris Okey picked up a triple in the game, his first of the season. He extended his six game hit streak, and has two hits in four of those games.

Alberti Chavez added a double in his second game with Dayton after homering in his first.


Result: Idaho Falls 7, Billings 3

Starting Pitcher: Max Wotell, LHP – 1.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Top Hitter: Jose Siri, RF – 2-for-4, 2B, R

Other Notable Performers:

Hector Vargas, SS– 1-for-4, 2 RBI

Montrell Marshall, 1B – 1-for-4, R, RBI

Game Notes: Max Wotell struggled again in his third start since joining the Reds organization in the Jay Bruce trade with five hits and four runs allowed in 1.2 innings.

In those three starts, Wotell has allowed 10 hits, 10 runs, and seven walks in just six innings of work.

After four straight outs to start the game, Wotell really struggled with one out in the second inning. He allowed four singles in a row, before a walk. After picking up a flyout, he allowed another two-run single and was removed from the game.

Jose Siri added two more hits and a double. Siri is hitting .311 over his last 10 games with eight extra base hits.

Hector Vargas picked up a single and now has hit in 13 straight games.
