Overview: Amir Garrett and Anthony DeSclafani look to continue strong runs. Tyler Mahle and Wendolyn Bautista look to rebound after road blocks, while Jonathon Crawford makes his fourth non-rehab start of the season.
Los Angeles at Cincinnati, 12:35 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Anthony DeSclafani (7-1, 3.10 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 69 K, 18 BB)
Notes: Anthony DeScalfani, who has been the Reds most consistent starter all season, will look to give the Reds another series win on Sunday over the Dodgers. DeScalfani has allowed over three runs just twice in his 13 starts in 2016, and those were his only non-quality starts of the campaign. In fact, two starts ago was the only time that DeSclafani allowed three or fewer and failed to go at least six innings. In that last start, DeScalafani held face and allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings against the Marlins.
Indianapolis at Louisville, 2:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Amir Garrett (2-4, 3.24 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 37 K, 23 BB)
Notes: Command has been the biggest issue for Amir Garrett, but when he has control, he is as good as it gets. That has shown over his last two starts, as he has worked into the seventh inning in each of those. In those two starts, Garrett walked just two hitters and allowed just nine hits and two runs. Prior to that, Garrett walked four hitters and allowed three runs, while retiring just two hitters and leaving the bases loaded in the first when removed from the August 8 game.
Pensacola at Mississippi, 6:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Tyler Mahle (5-4, 4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 50 K, 16 BB)
Notes: Tyler Mahle will make his 25th start between two levels on Friday night for Pensacola. Since being promoted to Double-A, Mahle has been consistently good, after dominating High-A. However, he has come down to earth a bit lately. In three August starts, Mahle has posted a 6.75 ERA with 15 hits and nine runs in 12 innings. However, he has struck out 12 hitters in those contests.
Daytona at Clearwater, 1:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Jonathon Crawford (1-0, 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 7 K, 4 BB)
Notes: Jonathon Crawford has seen very little but injuries since he was traded to the Reds, but saw success in his three first non-rehab starts of the season. In two of the last three starts, Crawford has worked into the fifth inning. He allowed just six hits and two earned runs in those 10 innings, while striking out six. However, in his second start, Crawford lasted just 3.1 innings, allowing five hits and three runs.
Dayton at West Michigan, 1:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Wendolyn Bautista (0-0, 5.27 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 9 K, 5 BB)
Notes: Wendolyn Bautista will make his second appearance since July 29 Tuesday night with Dayton. However, he was extremely good in 10 starts with Daytona this season, allowing just 34 hits and 15 runs (10 earned) in 44.2 innings. In his last start with Dayton, Bautista worked five innings, allowing seven hits and two runs.
