Overview: Homer Bailey, Antonio Santillan, and Rookie Davis looks to build on strong starts last time out. Tyler Mahle looks to get his season back on track.
Los Angeles at Cincinnati, 12:35 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Homer Bailey (2-1, 3.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 27 K, 6 BB)
Notes: Homer Bailey will make his fifth start since returning from Tommy John surgery on Monday. Bailey has been dominant in his last couple starts, after not having his best stuff against the Pirates on August 6. Bailey dominated the Brewers on August 12, going six shutout innings and allowing just three hits. He also showed a drastic improvement with his stuff and struck out 11 batters. In his next start, against the Marlins, Bailey tossed five innings, allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out six more. His lower walk totals are even more impressive, as some pitchers returning from Tommy John see command issues.
Toledo at Louisville, 7:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Rookie Davis (0-0, 7.71 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, 11 K, 5 BB)
Notes: Rookie Davis saw by far his best Triple-A start last time out. After a disastrous first Triple-A outings, it was encouraging to see Davis making progress and he looks to build on that Monday. Last time out, Davis allowed just four hits in six shutout innings. In his first start, Davis lasted just four innings, and allowed nine runs on 10 hits. Five days later, Davis once against worked four innings, and allowed seven hits and three runs.
Mobile at Pensacola, 7:30 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Tyler Mahle (5-4, 4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 50 K, 16 BB)
Notes: Tyler Mahle will make his 25th start between two levels on Monday night for Pensacola. Since being promoted to Double-A, Mahle has been consistently good, after dominating High-A. However, he has come down to earth a bit lately. In three August starts, Mahle has posted a 6.75 ERA with 15 hits and nine runs in 12 innings. However, he has struck out 12 hitters in those contests.
Daytona is off on Monday night and returns to action on Tuesday.
Lancing at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Antonio Santillan (2-2, 6.41 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 25 K, 14 BB)
Notes: After seeing some lumps early in his first four starts with Dayton, Antonio Santillan has also shown several glimmers as well. In his last start, Santillan worked 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10. He also worked six innings on August 6, allowing six hits and two runs. Strikeouts have certainly been the catalyst for Santillan, as he has struck out 25 hitters in just 19.2 innings. The Achilles heel has been walks, as he has allowed 14 free passes in that span.
Missoula at Billings, 7:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Moises Nova (0-5, 4.93 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 34 K, 24 BB)
Notes: Moises Nova has really been much better of late for Billings, as he has worked into the fifth inning in three of his last four starts. In those starts, he has allowed six hits and six runs, while striking out 12. However, on August 12, Nova retired just one batter and allowed three hits and three runs. Walks have been the main issue for Nova, who has allowed 23 free passes in his last 33.1 innings of work.
The AZL Reds are off on Monday and return to action on Tuesday.
