Game preview (8/24/16): Tim Adleman looks to regain standing in Reds’ rotation

Overview: Tim Adleman looks to regain his standing as a constant in the Reds rotation with his second start since returning from the DL. Barrett Astin, Zac Correll, and Jesus Reyes look to build on positive starts last time out.

Texas at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tim Adleman (2-1, 2.96 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 19 K, 11 BB)

Notes: Tim Adleman made his return to Cincinnati in his last start after an oblique injury ultimately cost him his big league spot earlier in the season. In his first three Reds starts, Adleman worked 16 innings, allowing  six runs. The hits can be deceiving in those three starts, as he allowed seven combined in his first two outings and eight in his third. The fourth start was the one that Adleman left due to the injury after 3.1 innings. In his last start, Adleman certainly did not allow a shortage of base runners, as he did not have his best stuff and allowed five hits and two walks in five innings. However, he was able to pitch around it all and allowed no runs.

Toledo at Louisville, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD

Notes: While the starting pitcher is listed as TBD on the Louisville website, it would be Rookie Davis’ turn in the rotation. The starter could also be a combination of Daniel Wright or Alfredo Simon, who would be on full rest.

Mobile at Pensacola, 7:30 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Barrett Astin (8-3, 2.43 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 83 K, 24 BB)

Notes: Barrett Astin will get the nod again for Pensacola and has bounced back and forth from starter to reliever this season. Prior to a start in his outing, the two appearances before had been out of the bullpen. However, he made three starts prior to that. In those starts, he allowed just seven hits and three runs in 16.2 innings of work. Additionally, in his last start on August 19, he worked six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight.

Lakeland at Daytona, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD

Lansing at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Jesus Reyes (5-4, 2.15 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 55 K, 30 BB)

Notes: Jesus Reyes has more relief appearances than starts this year, but success has vaulted him into the role. Reyes has only seven starts on the season, but he has started his last four appearances. In his last outing, Reyes tossed six innings for his longest outing of the season. In that start, he allowed five hits and two unearned runs. In the prior three starts, he worked 14 innings, allowing just 13 hits and seven runs (five earned). However, in the first two, he allowed just six hits and two unearned runs.

Billings at Missoula, 7:05 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Zac Correll (5-0, 2.43 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 40 K, 4 BB)

Notes: Zac Correll will make his second start of the season after making 14 relief appearances. Correll has been extremely efficient all season long, allowing less than one base runner per inning, while striking out over a batter an inning. In his first start, Correll went three innings, allowing four hits and a run.

AZL Reds at AZL Mariners, 7 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: TBD
