Game Notes:Cody Reed may have been looking for more from his second start since being optioned to Triple-A by the Reds.

However, the good news is that after exiting the game in the third inning with the trainers, he was just dealing with back spasms.

Reed allowed a one-out single in the first inning, but erased that runner with an inning-ending double play. In the second, he struck out another hitter, but also pitched around another single. However, after another strikeout in the third, Reed was visited by the trainer and eventually left with him.

Dilson Herrera smacked his second home run with Louisville in just 41 at bats.

Tony Renda added two hits in his first game back with the Bats since being optioned.

Result: Pensacola 4, Jacksonville 0

Starting Pitcher: Barrett Astin, RHP – 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

Top Hitter: Brandon Dixon, CF – 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Other Notable Performers:

Eric Jagielo, 1B – 1-for-3, 2B, RBI

Taylor Sparks, 3B – 2-for-4, R

Game Notes: Barrett Astin put together what was likely his strongest start of the season to lead the way for Pensacola to a victory.

The seven complete innings that he worked was a season high, and marked the second straight game that he worked into the seventh inning.

Astin was just two over the minimum through the first four innings of the game. He was able to strand those runners after a first inning single and a second inning double. He also hit a batter in the third, but got a double play on the next hitter. Astin struck out one hitter in each of the first four frames as well.

In the fifth, he allowed back-to-back one-out singles, but recovered to retire the side on two straight strikeouts.

He allowed one more single in the seventh, but ended his night strong with a strikeouts.

Nick Routt and Alejandro Chacin extended their scoreless streaks in the win as well. Routt hasn’t allowed a run since August 4, spanning nine outings. Chacin picked up his 27th save of the season and has allowed just two runs since August 2, in 12 appearances.

Brandon Dixon added two hits and a double. He is hitting .444 in his last 15 games.

Result: Lakeland 5, Daytona 4

Starting Pitcher: Seth Varner, LHP – 6 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Top Hitter: Gavin LaValley, 3B – 2-for-3, HR, 2 R, RBI

Other Notable Performers:

Aristides Aquino, RF – 2-for-3, R

Game Notes: After falling in the opener of the double header in a completed game from 7/1 to Lakeland, Daytona dropped the second as well.

Seth Varner tossed a six-inning complete game, but allowed 10 hits and five runs to cross the plate. He did strike out seven hitter though.

Gavin LaValley homered for the second time in three games, and added two hits in the contest. LaValley is 9-for-21 in his last five games with Daytona.

Result: Bowling Green 5, Dayton 2

Starting Pitcher: Jesus Reyes, RHP – 5.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: Luis Gonzalez, SS – 1-for-4, 2B, R

Other Notable Performers:

James Vasquez, 1B – 2-for-4, RBI

Zack Shields, RF – 1-for-2, BB

Game Notes: After having been strong for his last handful of starts, Jesus Reyes ran into some trouble in the third inning on Monday night.

In that frame, he hit the lead off batter, then walked the next three to push in a run. After a mound visit, he hit another batter and allowed a RBI single. While he did rebound to get a double play ground out and a second ground out to end the inning, the damage was already done.

He pitched around damage much of the night and just wasn’t as sharp as usual.

Result: Great Falls 5, Billings 3

Starting Pitcher: Ian Kahaloa, RHP – 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Top Hitter: T.J. Friedl, CF – 2-for-5, R

Other Notable Performers:

Jose Siri – 1-for-4, R, RBI

John Sansone, 3B – 1-for-4

Game Notes: John Sansone has been on fire of late for Billings and seems to have found a groove after a slow start to his season.

Sansone is 8-for-24 over his last six games with two doubles and a home run.

Ian Kahaloa worked into the sixth inning for the first time in August. While he allowed four hits and three runs in the first two innings, Kahaloa settled down nicely after that.

He retired the side in order in the third and the fourth. After the lead off double in the fifth, Kahaloa allowed one more runner to score, but overall was an improvement over his latest starts.
