Game recap (8/30/16): Sal Romano dominant again, T.J. Friedl with three more hits


Result: Louisville 5, Charlotte 3

Game Notes: It has not been a good three-month stretch for Daniel Wright with hits and runs allowed.

However, it what could have been one of his final starts of the season on Tuesday night, Wright was sharp.

While he did allow six hits and two walks, the amount of base runners against were down significantly and he allowed his team a chance to win.

Seth Mejias-Brean picked up his sixth home run of the season and first since July 31.


Kyle Skipworth added a two-run double and is now 2-for-9 in three games since returning to Louisville.


Result: Pensacola 5, Jacksonville 2

Game Notes: Sal Romano put together another dominant start on Tuesday night and has been on fire since the start of July.

His latest start marks the second in three outings in which he went eight shutout innings.

Romano was perfect through 4.2 innings in the start and was just mowing hitters down. In the third inning, Romano struck out the final two hitters swinging and had four punch outs through the first four frames.

He finally allowed a two-out single in the fifth to break up the no hitter, but pitched around it.

Romano was also perfect in the sixth and seventh innings, added two more strikeouts, both to the lead off hitters. He allowed a lead off single in the eighth, but retired the next three hitters.

For the game, Romano tossed 94 pitches with 58 strikes.

Sebastian Elizalde added three hits in the win. Elizalde is now hitting .400 in his last 10 games with five multi-hit efforts.


Result: Daytona

Daytona was postponed due to rain on Tuesday night and the game will be made up as a double header on Wednesday.



Result: Dayton

Dayton was off on Tuesday night and returns to action on Wednesday.


Result: Great Falls 5, Billings 1

Starting Pitcher: Scott Moss, RHP – 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Top Hitter: T.J. Friedl, DH – 3-for-4, 3B, R

Other Notable Performers:

Hector Vargas, SS– 1-for-3, 2B

Montrell Marshall, 1B – 1-for-3, 2 K

Game Notes: T.J. Friedl has not showed much since joining the Reds organization as an undrafted free agent last month.

After two hits and a triple on Tuesday night, Friedl is hitting .409 in his last 10 games.

Scott Moss had his first sideways start of the season. It marked the first time in his last six starts that Moss failed to go five innings.

Additionally, he was hit hard for the first time. The five hits and he allowed tied a career high in his first professional season.


AZL Reds

The AZL Reds were off on Tuesday night and return to action again on Wednesday night to open the playoffs.
