Overview: Amir Garrett will look to end his Triple-A season on a high note with a Louisville double header, while Wendolyn Bautista will try to build on a shutout last time out.
The Reds are off on Thursday and will begin a homestand with the Cardinals on Friday night.
Charlotte at Louisville, 6:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: TBD
Notes:Louisville has listed both of the starters for Thursday night’s double header as TBD. However, it would be Amir Garrett’s turn in the rotation to start at least one of the games.
Pensacola at Birmingham, 7:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Tyler Mahle (6-3, 4.39 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 62 K, 19 BB)
Notes: Tyler Mahle will make his 27th start between two levels on Thursday night for Pensacola, and has really struggled of late after an extremely strong start. Coming into his last outing, in four August starts, Mahle has posted a 7.41 ERA with 21 hits and 14 runs in 17 innings. However, he has struck out 17 hitters in those contests. In his last start, Mahle bounced back with 6.1 quality innings, where he allowed two hits and two runs, while striking out seven. That is much more in line with how he pitched in June and July, when he posted a 2.70 and 3.67 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 44.1 innings.
Brevard County at Daytona, 7:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Keury Mella (8-9, 3.90 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 95 K, 56 BB)
Notes: Keury Mella has allowed at least seven hits in seven of his last nine starts entering Thursday. However, he has been able to limit the damage in some of those, as he also allowed three or less runs in five of those nine. After strong months in April and May, Mella has seen issues since. He posted ERAs over five in June and July, and is currently at 4.13 for August.
Lake County at Dayton, 7:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Wendolyn Bautista (1-0, 3.14 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 18 K, 7 BB)
Notes: Wendolyn Bautista will make his fourth start with Dayton, where he returned to be a starter. However, he was extremely good in 10 starts with Daytona this season, allowing just 34 hits and 15 runs (10 earned) in 44.2 innings. In his first two starts with Dayton, Bautista worked 11 innings, allowing 13 hits and four runs. However, he tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout last time out for possibly the best start for anyone in the organization this season.
Billings at Great Falls, 9:00 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Andrew Jordan (1-4, 4.09 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 53 K, 18 BB)
Notes: Andrew Jordan will make his 12th start of the season for Billings on Thursday, and may have hit a bit of a wall of late. After tossing six innings of one-hit shutout ball on August 8, Jordan has stepped back a bit in each start since. In his start after that, he lasted just 1.2 innings and allowed eight hits and eight runs. In his last two starts, Jordan had two similar outings where he worked 8.1 total innings and allowed 12 hits and four runs. He did strike out 10 in those starts though.
Notes: The AZL Reds ended their season on Wednesday night with an opening playoff loss.
