Overview: Robert Stephenson will look to build on two strong starts at the beginning of the season with his return to Cincinnati. Keury Mella will make his Triple-A debut.
St. Louis at Cincinnati, 1:10 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Robert Stephenson (2-0, 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 4 K, 4 BB)
Notes: In two starts with the Reds this season, Robert Stephenson has taken the winning decision in each. In fact, Stephenson has seen more success at the big league level in 2016 than he has in the minor leagues most times. Command has been the biggest issue for Stephenson in Triple-A, and he was not immune to it in the Majors, but it was not as glaring in a small sample size. In Triple-A, Stephenson had allowed 20 walks in his last seven starts. However, he has also allowed 40 hits over that span.
Indianapolis at Louisville, 1:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Keury Mella (0-0, -.– ERA, -.– WHIP, 0 K, 0 BB)
Notes: Keury Mella will make his Triple-A debut on Monday night. While the goal was achieved by the end of the season, Mella has had his share of downs in the 2016 campaign. Mella has allowed at least seven hits in seven of his last nine starts entering Sunday. However, he has been able to limit the damage in some of those, as he also allowed three or less runs in five of those nine. After strong months in April and May, Mella has seen issues since. He posted ERAs over five in June and July, and is currently at 4.13 for August.
Pensacola at Birmingham, 1:30 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Nick Travieso (4-7, 4.10 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 85 K, 52 BB)
Notes: Nick Travieso made his sixth start since coming of the DL early on Monday. For the second time in his last three starts, Travieso worked six innings in his last start. In that start, he was really just done in by a tough third inning. In the frame, he allowed all five of the hits allowed and all four of the runs to cross the plate. He also hit a batter in the inning. Outside of walks in the first, fifth, and sixth, Travieso was perfect the rest of the way. He was also able to add seven strikeouts.
The Daytona Tortugas completed their season on Sunday.
Dayton at South Bend, 2:05 p.m. EST
Starting pitcher: Jake Johnson (0-3, 10.97 ERA, 2.30 WHIP, 22 K, 12 BB)
Notes: Jake Johnson will make his third start and 13th appearance of the season for Dayton. Both starts came before June, as he was demoted to Billings after his May 22 appearance. After posting a 7.90 ERA in 17 appearances with Billings, Johnson got another shot with Dayton for this start.
Helena at Billings, 3:05 p.m. EST
