Game preview (9/6/16): Brandon Finnegan looks to ride high strikeout totals to success

Overview: Brandon Finnegan takes the mound against the Mets, looking to continue an outstanding end of the season. Pensacola gets a day off before starting the playoffs on Wednesday.

New York at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Brandon Finnegan (8-10, 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 127 K, 72 BB)

Notes: Brandon Finnegan has blown out his career high in innings pitched this season, and the Reds have made it known that Finnegan will likely be shut down before the season concludes. The only question is when and any start upcoming could certainly be his last. Either way, the lefty is ending his season on a strong note. After posting monthly ERAs over five for June and July, he had a 2.65 in his six August starts. In his last three starts, Finnegan has been extra good with his increased use of the change up. He has worked seven, six, and seven innings in his last three and allowed no more than five hits and two runs in any of the starts. He has also struck out 29 hitters in those 20 innings, while walking just four.

The Louisville Bats wrapped up their season on Monday.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are off on Tuesday night and open their playoffs on Wednesday night against Mississippi.

The Daytona Tortugas completed their season on Sunday.

The Dayton Dragons completed their season on Monday.

Helena at Billings, 8:05 p.m. EST
