Game preview (9/14/16): Tim Adleman looks to limit base runners, home runs

Overview: Tim Adleman has been solid, but has a couple of bugaboos with the Reds, while Billings opens its playoff championship series on Wednesday night.

reds

Milwaukee at Cincinnati, 7:10 p.m. EST

Starting pitcher: Tim Adleman (2-3, 3.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 30 K, 15 BB)

Notes: Overall, on paper, the big league season for Tim Adleman looks solid. His season ERA is sitting at 3.88 and a 1.32 WHIP, but those numbers can be a tad deceiving. In nine starts, he has allowed 46 hits in 46.1 innings of work. However, the right hander really struggled with base runners in his first three starts since returning to the Reds after an injury in May. In those first three starts, Adleman allowed 17 hits and three walks in 16 innings of work. However, the biggest issue has been a common one for the Reds…home runs. Adleman has allowed seven home runs in his five starts since returning. Last time out, Adleman worked six innings, but allowed seven hits and two walks in that span. He was able to limit the damage to just two runs.

billings

Orem at Billings, 9:05 p.m. EST

Notes: Billings will open its Pioneer League final against Orem on Wednesday night after sweeping the opening series of the playoffs in two games.
